Saturday, August 23rd. It's cool & overcast everywhere we look as we leave UH. We're hoping the cool weather stays, but that it doesn't rain until later. Much later. We're on the way to Sterling for their 2014 Invitational.
Once we get to the park at Sterling, we unload all the food, drinks and supplies for the day. Then Coach gives us the strategy for today's run. We're going to work on 'packing' and 'bursts' during the race. Both will be necessary once we get to the big races at the end of the year.
Today we all run together. The guys get to have a full-team warmup, which lets the younger guys be a bigger part of what the vets do to prepare for the race. A few minutes of warmups, then the gun goes off. We're off!
The 'Dogs get off to a great start, work thru the middle of the course & then close in on the finish. Now it's time to cut loose and bust it to the end! Isaiah wins the race! And with 4 Bulldogs in the top 10, and 9 in the top 20, the boys team wins the title.
After the boys victory, they get together for team photos and a rousing Bulldog yell. Now it's time to go cheer on the girls.
The girls warm up, get ready and bust out at the starter's gun. Here we go!
The girls team is led in by Jenna's individual 2nd place. The team barely gets knocked out of 2nd place (2 points). We had a good day on the course and didn't have to deal with rain or bad weather. Yeah!
Today was a success, but it's just one step on the path to getting where we want to be at State. We've got a lot more work to do, but we'll enjoy today. Good job, 'Dogs.

We take some time to relax, hydrate, eat and swap stories, then we're off for home again. See you next week at Kersey.
