August 30 at Platte Valley High School, Kersey. Here's where the League Meet will be in a few short weeks. Today is a good sized meet, with plenty of good teams here. The 'Dogs are ready. Let's rock!
First we set up camp. Then it's time for a little stretching....or dancing. Whatever helps loosen the body up! Runners get taped, hydrated, fed, warmed up and ready to rip. (Special thanks to George for going backwoods & taking the cornfield photos!)

First up, the Varsity Boys. The guys get the first chance to see what this course looks like. It's pretty flat, but goes on wet, shaggy grass, then pavement, next a dirt road, then the trail through the cornfield, and then do it all over again before we end up on the track for a 300 meter finish.
The guys finish strong. Led by Isaiah's 3rd place finish, and Dale's 10th place, each runner passes a few competitors in the last 300 meters - some pick off a handful on their way in with some great sprints. That hard work in practice is showing up today! Now we wait to hear the results. We know it was good, but we don't know how good. Yet.
Next up - the Varsity Girls. We're short one today - there's always viruses running rampant in the schools. But we're ready to give it our best shot and see what happens.

The girls are packing well today. Can they hold that pack together to the end? We've had some tough practices this week and have some pretty dead legs. But there's too much team spirit here to hold back anything. We know we're getting stronger every day.
The girls are spent....but they hold their pack to the end. Led by Jenna's 8th place finish, our next three runners come in within 23 seconds of each other. That 'pack mentality' is what we have to have to do well at Regionals & State.
Next group - the Junior Varsity Boys. Uh-oh, by the time the old, slow, weak photographer gets back to the starting line the race has already started. Gotta work some more on that sprinter speed from the last race to the next one!

That cornfield run is something, isn't it boys? This is what 'cross country' is all about. Over the river & through the woods....er, cornfield. And we get to do this twice? Oh well, let's give it a good shot.
The JV boys race their tails off! Once again all those sprints at the end of practice are showing results. We pass a bunch of guys on the way in. These JV guys want to work their way up the ladder and they're putting it all out there. Nice work guys!
The last race is the Junior Varsity girls. We have three ladies in this race today and the team spreads out to cheer them on. Let's go girls!

The Varsity Boys work their way to a 2nd place team finish. 3 points out of 1st place. We're all thinking of one more guy we could've taken.........but this one's over with. It was a good day and we learned more about our race strategies today.
The Varsity Girls end up 8th against this tough competition. But we were 18 points away from 5th. We know we can do better the next time out. Our legs are dead, but 30 minutes after the race we're recovered & ready to move on.
The entire team ran hard today - we ran tired, but ran hard. We're building up each week so we can get where we want to be at the end of the season. This is tough stuff, but we've got a great team to share the pain with.
See you next week at Lyons.
